Following on from the publication in May 2012 of Modelling the Southern Volume 1: Ideas and Inspiration by Jeremy English, via Kevin Robertson’s, Noodle Books stable this week sees the publication of the long awaited Volume 2. Sub titled ‘The Electric Effect’ it features not only the impact of electrification on the Southern, and the fact that manufacturers are now releasing EMU models, but also other aspects of modeling the Southern including other rolling stock and motive power and also visitors to the Southern from other railway companies and regions.

In Volume 1 Fisherton Sarum made an appearance in the modelling inspiration pages, and does so again in this new volume but featuring some of those visitors to the Southern, mentioned above, in the shape of the 1948 locomotive exchanges and some of the models that I have created to represent the section of the trials that took place between Waterloo and Exeter, along with the freight trials between Eastleigh and South Wales and therefore passed through Salisbury. The eagle eyed readers will also, in an earlier chapter, spot a visitor to Fisherton Sarum in the shape of my Bulleid ‘Leader’
This 96 page paperback publication features chapters on Southern Electric, The Electric Effect, Electric Trains, Modern Traction for the Southern, The Somerset and Dorset, Strangers on the Southern and Inspired Modelling. The full publication details are: Modelling the Southern Volume 2: The Electric Effect, ISBN: 978-1-909328-00-6
