Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Merry Christmas to you all, fill up your life with love, compassion, tolerance, peace, happiness and perhaps hopefully some time for modelling.

It looks a lot like snow at Canute Road Quay…
The SR 1924 Christmas advert

The wonderful Southern Railway Christmas press advert from December 1924 seen left (click for a larger version) was recently unearthed by friend and Railway Historian Dr, David Turner, and is a fascinating glimpse back to a different, possibly non striking, time.
I love the promise of “Jolly Parties at the seaside”, I know “summer comes soonest in the south” but that must have been optimistic in December? A neat use of the holly leaves to show the list of Southern Railway served seaside destinations…

As the festive season and New Year break is upon us, I just wanted to say many thanks to all of you whom have taken the time to read my ramblings over the past 12 months. I hope you have found such ramblings interesting and informative.  I have always enjoyed corresponding with many of you that have made contact me via email or the comments field on my various posts. I look forward to corresponding with you again in the New Year and maybe in person at an exhibition…

A further flurry of activity will be taking place at the start of the new year with Hornby (January 10th we beleive) announcing its 2022 range followed a few weeks later, at the beginning of February, by Bachmann making the next of their now quarterly range announcements.  I will as always bring you all the Southern Railway / Southern Region related news on here as soon as their announcements are made.

Seasons greetings, whatever your faith or beliefs, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (or Nadelik Lowen ha Blydhen Nowydh Da! from the boss’ side of the Tamar) to you all!

Christmas in lockdown at Canute Road Quay

It is certainly going to be a different Christmas for many this year, it is not cancelled but just needs to be celebrated in a different way, especially if like me you have gone from Tier 2 through to Tier 4 in less than 48 hours!

It’s a cold, crisp and frosty December morning as we approach Christmas at Canute Road Quay and the crew on board ex LSWR Adams B4 Class No. 100 try to keep warm whilst shunting on the quay as flurries of snow start to get heavier.

As the festive season and New Year break is upon us, please make the time to contact your friends and family, especially those whom might be alone, and not able to be in the company of others at this most unusual of times. It is good and OK to simply ask “Are you OK?” and likewise it is “OK not to be OK” and reach out for assistance. The one good thing, if anything, this year has been the kindness and generosity of others to help and support each other, and long may this continue.

I just wanted to say very many thanks to all of you whom have taken the time to read this blog over the past 12 months. I hope you have found such ramblings interesting and informative.

Snow lay round about…. Christmas at Fisherton Sarum

It’s a cold and bright December Morning as we approach Christmas at Fisherton Sarum and snow lay round about, lightly dusting, crisp and even, although services have so far been largely unaffected (remember when that was the case, stikes aside?).

Snow and frost at Fisherton Sarum…it must be Christmas time

It looks like it’s a cold and bright December Morning as we approach Christmas at Fisherton Sarum and snow lay round about, crisp and even. Services have so far been largely unaffected (remember when that was the case?), no long closures for engineering works and bustitutions here, just a cessation of services on the big day itself .

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the readers of my little Southern Railway part of the blogesphere for taking the time to read my ramblings which I hope you have found of interest. I also thank those whom have taken to time get on touch either via the comment facility on here, email or personally at exhibitions. Also of course the valued and sometimes privileged input from traders and manufacturers alike that help me keep this blog as up to date as I can. I enjoy hearing from and meeting you all.

May this Christmas end the present year on a cheerful note
and make way for a fresh and bright New Year.
Here’s wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

This will be probably be my last post of 2013 and I look forward to corresponding with you in the new year. Many thanks to all of you whom have taken to the time to read my ramblings over the past 12 months.

Finally in case you missed it a further set of CADs for the Kernow Model Centre O2 and Gate Stock commissions that we have been working on are available to view on their Facebook page (you do not have to be a member to view)

The Gate Stock Cads still requires a couple of tweaks to be made but they can be seen here

The O2 class locomotives are very nearly ready to start cutting metal for the first engineering prototypes and some of the Cads can be seen here

merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
