Happiness is the road… or… Canute Road Quay hits a lot of road…

2026 will be a record year for Canute Road Quay, travelling many more miles in a single year than ever before, making exhibition appearances literally up and down the United Kingdom.

Canute Road Quay set up ready for the exhibition to open

Having already be at the Alton Model Railway Groups Febex show in Hampshire, its next appearance will be at the renown York show this coming Easter,  Saturday 4th to Monday 6th April at  York Racecourse, Racecourse Road, York. YO23 1EX I have never managed to attend this show even as visitor before and its always been on the list of shows I wanted to go to, so it will be great to be there with Canute Road Quay

Next up, after York, will be 23rd & 24th May at the Salisbury & South Wilts Railway Society’s 2nd Railex show at The Thruxton Centre, Thruxton Circuit, Andover SP11 8PN

By far the furthest I ever travelled with any layout (beating being at Wadebridge with Fisherton Sarum, by nearly 200 miles) will be Scotland on 27th & 28th June at  Perth Model Railway Group at the Dewars Centre, Glover St, Perth PH2 0TH

Up Periscope…

The last appearance for Canute Road Quay in 2026 will be once again returning to our friends Worthing Model Railway Club on 26th & 27th September at their new show venue of St Andrews School, Sackville Rd, Worthing BN14 8BG

So all in all the mileage for Canute Road Quay during 2026 to the five shows and back will exceed 2,000 miles!
If you are visiting any of these shows please make sure you come and say hello, it is always great to meet and chat to readers of my corner of the interweb!

My modified stock boxes that fit into the top of Canute Road Quay for safe transport

One advantage of taking Canute Road Quay to shows is its compact size, 4ft x 12″ scenic section with 1ft square fiddle yard at the left hand end, so it fits in one piece in the back of my car. I also have modified three A4/10L plastic boxes that fit in the top of the layout to carry all the (read more than I need) stock. This not only reduces the number of separate items to carry in and out of the exhibition venue but importantly keeps the stock safely with the layout at all times.
The only other items need are two metal folding trestles, a power box housing the transformers etc. a folding bar stool and just one plastic create of: bits and bobs, the speaker for my ambient sounds (see my Sounds That Can’t Be Made post here) , spares, tools and finally my couple of periscopes (offered for the height challenged viewer) oh and of course my fellow operator (usually Simon) and any overnight bags.

As always details of all the booked appearances of Canute Road Quay (and Simon’s Collingwood) can be found on my Exhibition Diary page here.

p.s. the title is a nod to a favourite Aylesbury based band of mine…
